Update on Wednesday, 12/4/19 Planning Board meeting RE: 114 Whitwell Street

On Wednesday, 12/4/19, the Planning Board closed the pubic meeting and unanimously voted to approve FoxRock’s project proposal for 465 units despite their not addressing our concerns about density (please see recap below).

Attached please find the PDF of the list of conditions for the project.

Thank you to all who attended and wrote letters of support. We greatly appreciate your efforts.  Also a special thanks to Councilors Brad Croall, Noel DiBona, Nina Liang, Anne Mahoney and Councilor-elect Chuck Phelan for their support.

RECAP:  Fox Rock continued NOT to address the concerns about density and scale that are of utmost importance to our neighbors. In the latest iteration of their plan, Fox Rock reduced the number of units from 490 to 465 but the bedroom count has increased! In addition, the square footage also increased and the parking decreased. Overall, their changes amount to nothing more then a shell game and don’t address neighborhood concerns. Unfortunately, the neighbors have worked for months to engage Fox Rock in a productive dialog but to no avail.

HHNA had looked forward to working toward a conclusion - one that satisfied FoxRock’s bottom line while acknowledging the valid concerns continually expressed by neighbors and city councilors. In particular, at the July Planning Board meeting 5 City Councilors and dozens of neighbors spoke - all in opposition to the project; in July the Planning Board also received 41 letters in opposition to the project.

Again, HHNA greatly appreciates the effort by those who have attended past Planning Board meetings as well as written letters of support.

If you have any additional comments, please consider emailing the Planning Director: jfatseas@quincyma.gov OR send a letter (Planning and Community Development, 1305 Hancock Street). Please be sure to include your name and address with your comments.

Also, contact your Ward Councilor and/or At-Large Councilors with concerns.
